Derby Day

At the beginning of the month, I was given the pleasure to attend/cover the 143rd Kentucky Derby most exclusive Derby Party in Houston.  Thanks to Hughes Manor and Modern Luxury Houston Magazine. This was a marvelous event and Hughes Manor provided the perfect location with their indoor/outdoor venue. They had TVs all around and an outdoor projector screen, a live Horse in winner’s circle attire to take pictures with, live paintings, and lawn games like corn-hole tossing. Not only was there a Dj during the event but also a live performance from the Bluegrass Band. With everyone dressed in derby attire there was a Bowtie contest for the men and a Hat contest for the women.  Throughout the night we were provided delicious gourmet bites from Custom Culinary like tangy barbecue meatballs, lemon grilled chicken skewers, sweet chocolate brownies and truffle cheesecake. For drinks we were treated to an open bar. I had the classic signature derby cocktail “Mint Julep”, along with sweet wines and champagne. There was a Luxury Raffle with great prizes and Faux Betting with all proceeds going to the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show. Lastly was the big race; soon as the gates open and the Horses took off the place went into total chaos. There were people clinching their teeth, biting their nails, seating on the edge of their seats, standing, jumping up and down all shouting and cheering for their favorite Horse and Jockey. I truly see why it’s called the most exciting two minutes in sports. Overall this was an awesome experience. Thanks to Abbey, Jillian and Jess for giving me this great opportunity. Dec My Room

Last month, I was given the chance to cover Dec My Room’s Spring Into Fashion. The event was held on the third floor of Neiman Marcus in the Galleria to help Dec My Room celebrate 10 years of business. Dec my room is a non-profit organization with the mission to create healing places for kids in the Hospitals all around Houston; by decorating a child’s room with the theme of their choosing. This is truly heart-warming for it shows how a sense of love and personal style can change an ordinary room to the perfect healing place. Not only did I learn about Dec My Room, but I was given an exclusive first look at Neiman Marcus newest spring 2017 collection. The fashion show was emceed by channel 13 news anchor Gina Gaston. Also my friend Mr. Remington the publisher of Modern Luxury Houston even hit the runway. There was even a silent auction to benefit the organization. Throughout the night we were served Hor d’oeuvres like beef skewers and signature drinks. This was an excellent experience. Thanks to Courtney Barta and Kathy French for giving me this great opportunity. I have provided pictures down below along with a link to Dec My Room. For more than 30 years, the Houston Auto Show has brought the automotive world to Texas, allowing consumers to see, touch, and now ride and drive experiences the industry’s latest and greatest offerings. The Houston Auto Show has grown by adding themed days honoring Texas’ military and families. During the show I saw sportscars like the Mclaren, Audi R8 Spyder, the 007 Ashton Martin series, and Lotus. There were luxury vehicles such as the Alfa Romeo, Cadillac CTS-Mercedes Benz, Lexus and Jaguar.  Lastly there were classics like the 1979 Pontiac Trans Am, 1965 Shelby Cobra and woodies. They even had a two story media lounge for us covering the event. At the media lounge we were treated to snacks and an open bar. Menu of Menus

Last week, I was able to attend the 15th annual Houston Press Menu of Menus Extravaganza. The extravaganza was held at the massive silver street station. Houston Press has built a platform that offers unlimited food samples from over 40 of Houston’s top restaurants along with wine, beer and cocktail pairings.  Menu of Menus truly shows how diverse Houston’s food scene is. There was Italian, Mexican, Japanese,Greek South African, Cajun Brazilian and American foods.  They even had an Iron fork competition putting two of Houston’s top chefs against each other in a cook-off. Some of the restaurants at Menu of Menus were Prestige Oyster’s Inc., Niko Nikos, Krisp Bird and Batter, Hughie’s Tarvan & Vietnamese, Fajita Pete’s, Casian King, Shipleys , Season 52. Some of my favorite restaurants were Los Cucos Mexican Café with their chicken and beef quesadilla, Krisp Bird and Batter serving chicken and biscuits drenched in spicy ranch sauce, Trahan’s Wings and Daiquiris with their spicy Hurricane Katrina wings, Peli Peli serving their South African oxtails, and Italiano’s Restaurant with their wine and pasta. The best drink in my opinion came from Blue Chair Bay; their new vanilla and key lime pie flavored rum taste amazing. For dessert I loved delicious cold treats from SweetRide! They are the only alcoholic and non-alcoholic gourmet Ice Cream, Sorbet, Italian Ice and Sno-Cone truck in Houston. Overall this was a foodie’s playground and I look forward to next year. Thanks again Mrs. Sexton for the tickets it was truly a great experience. I have provided pictures down below along with a link to Menu of Menus and the restaurants. My favorite floor plans were the 384 square footage Tokyo style; with a living room/bedroom, the 576 sq. ft. Barcelona with a bedroom, living room, a small office/bedroom, and the 966 sq. ft. New Yorker featuring a living room, two bedrooms an office and two bathrooms.  While walking around touring the different layouts we were giving sandwiches from Corner Bakery Café, grapes, strawberries and cheese. There was even an open wine bar to pair the food with. I personally cannot wait for the new Ivy Lofts are finished they will make a great addition to the downtown skyline. Garden Soiree

In continuation to this year’s Wedding Season; I had the pleasure of attending Hughes Manor annual Garden Soiree Bridal Event.  Hughes Manor is a timeless industrial yet modern indoor/outdoor weddings and events venue. During the Garden Soiree there was a meet and greet with the vendors and a fashion show. A couple of my favorite vendors at the event were Laced Vinyl Shoppe and Half Moon Lettering. Laced Vinyl Shoppe makes custom dance floor wraps, monograms, decals and banners. While Half Moon Lettering creates beautiful invitations and lettering by incorporating calligraphy and chalkboards. After the meet and greet we went inside to see the transformation of Hughes Manor. It was a true bridal delight with all the décor and the arrangement of the tables, chairs, stage, lighting, and dance floor. They even had hors d’oeuvre consisting of plantains, chicken and waffles. As well as tres leches cake for dessert provided by Churrascos . There was even an open bar thanks to Excel Pours bar and catering. Next, Now & Forever Bridal Boutique treated us to a fashion show with some of the hottest wedding trends in this season. The Show featured pure whites, unique patterns and shiny sequence fabrics. Lastly we ended the night by partying to a live performance from Rapture Houston. This was an awesome experience and I cannot wait to visit Hughes Manor again.  I have provided pictures down below along with links to my favorite vendors.          Spring time is here and the wedding season is among us. I was able to kick off this wedding season by attending J’Adore Events 1st Bridal Showcase.  J’Adore Events is a Houston based event planning company. Their event designers and coordinators take care of everything so you can relax and enjoy your special celebration. They provide you and your guests with a beautiful, memorable moment that is professionally managed with a personal touch. The event was held at Station 3, an industrial chic venue space located in the Houston art district. Once inside, I was greeted with a luxurious gift bag with all types of wedding swag inside. During the event we were able to mix and mingle with different wedding vendors. Some of my favorites were Atelier du Papie a paper studio that makes impressions to last longer than your event.   Brickhouse Bridal with their posh salon for designer wedding dresses, accessories and bridal-party apparel. Keisha’s Kreations was there offering fresh floral designs, decor and rentals in a seamless production from beginning to end. The last vendor was House of Hough they provide event decor such as tablecloths, chair covers, overlays and more. After speaking with a few vendors I went upstairs to enjoy the party.  The Dj for the party was my friend Lewis Grell he kept the party jumping all night.  They even had a thirty second slow motion booth.  Throughout the night we were given champagne, and a cranberry, pineapple and sprite spritzer.  For food we were given catering by Churrascos Steak & Seafood. They served seared beef empanadas with caramelized onions, cumin, malbec-soaked raisins and pimento olives and roasted chicken empanadas made of basil and candied pecans. There was Ceviche Copacabana with Costa Rican rainforest tilapia, gulf shrimp with jalapeno, red onion and cilantro. Fresh fruits like strawberries and plantains.
